Runity

Runity is a program that bridges the gap between Pilates and running. We have considered for a long time that the co-ordination and strength gained in Pilates classes would cross-over directly into things like running.

We are now thinking that this isn't as true as it may seem. The forces that are imparted on the body during running are far greater than those imparted during a Pilates class. The specific skills needed are also different, and how these skills are integrated into a running technique can't really be taught in a situation that is not actually running.

That's where Runity comes in. The strength of Pilates is built upon, and applied in real-time to someone running.

Runity sessions generally involve a quick assessment of how the body is moving in terms of it's range of movement. Then, a video is taken, uncoached, to see how you naturally move while running. With these in mind, an exercise program is formulated to build strength and co-ordination to create a more efficient and safer running technique. Once we have worked through this program, we get you back on the treadmill and coach you through running in real-time, video it and look at the before and after videos to see what changes have been made. This is then practiced in your own time, before coming back in and being reassessed.

Runity sessions are 1:1 and last an hour. A four week homework exercise is devised and delivered during the session then emailed after the session.

Cost: $100.

This video is from a 1 hour session that took place as part of a workshop. The client excelled in taking on board the running technique and made a vast improvement. Her dynamc posture improved, her leg cycle changed dramatically, and she became more efficient overall. This in turn will lead to better running performance and decreased forces throughout her body.
